The BCA Analog Thermometer measures the temperature gradient of the snowpack. It can be calibrated and comes with a sling for hanging it from a ski tip to read air temperature.

What it's for

In a snow pit you take the snow temperature at set depths. The change in temperature from one depth to the next is the temperature gradient, which tells you how the snow grains are likely to be changing.
