The Continental TPU Tube is a 43 g inner tube made from seven sealed layers of TPU. This size fits 700 x 40 to 60 and 29 x 1.6 to 2.4 tires and has a 60 mm Presta valve. It is for disc brake wheels only.

What it's for

A TPU tube weighs far less than a butyl tube of the same size and packs down small, so it works as a main tube for gravel and mountain bike wheels or as a compact spare. Continental also lists low rolling resistance as a benefit.

How it works

Seven layer TPU: The tube wall is built from seven sealed layers of micrometer thin thermoplastic polyurethane.

Undyed material: Continental leaves the TPU uncolored to protect material quality and air retention, and checks each tube after production.

Conical valve base: The valve is slightly conical where it meets the rim so it seats well in the valve hole.

Threaded valve: The valve is threaded inside, so you can fit a valve extension or replace the valve core.

Compatibility

• Fits: 700c / 29 in (622 mm) tires from 40 to 60 mm wide, or 29 x 1.6 to 2.4 in
• Does not fit: Rim brake wheels. Continental states the tube is not compatible with rim brakes because braking heat can cause sudden air loss.
• How to check yours: Your rim valve hole must be the correct Presta diameter. Continental warns that an oversize hole can lead to valve failure.

Setup and installation

• Rim tape: Use protective rim tape that fully covers the spoke holes.
• Mounting pressure: Inflate to no more than 0.3 bar while fitting the tube so it is not overstretched outside the tire.
• Seating: Check that the tube is not trapped under the bead or twisted before you inflate fully.
• Reuse: Once used, the tube has stretched to that tire size. Do not move it to a narrower tire.
