The Garmin Edge 540 Solar is a GPS cycling computer with a 2.6 in color display, button controls, and a solar charging lens that adds ride time in sunlight.
The Edge 540 Solar records and displays your ride data, guides you along routes, and gives training guidance. It is controlled entirely by buttons, which Garmin notes work in any riding environment, including with wet hands or thick gloves.
Power Glass solar: A solar charging lens over the display tops up the battery while you ride. Garmin states it can add up to 25 minutes per hour in daytime riding when in battery saver mode.
Multi band GNSS: The unit can listen to more than one frequency from the satellites, which improves position accuracy under dense tree cover and in built up areas.
ClimbPro: Shows the remaining ascent and grade for each climb on your ride.
Targeted adaptive coaching: Suggests personalized workouts and compares your cycling ability to the demands of a course.
Stamina and Power Guide: Real time stamina tracks how much effort you have left during a ride. Power Guide gives power targets to manage your effort across a course. Both need a compatible power meter and heart rate monitor.
Maps and routing: Ride type specific maps use Trendline Popularity Routing, with Trailforks trail content included. Route guidance can be paused and it notifies you when you go off course.
Safety and tracking: LiveTrack, group messaging, and incident detection work when paired with a phone.
