The Hope Tech 4 V4 is a four piston hydraulic disc brake with tool free reach and bite point adjustment. This is the rear brake, lever and post mount caliper, with red accents.

What it's for

Hope lists the Tech 4 V4 in its enduro range. It pairs the Tech 4 lever with the V4 four piston caliper for riders who need strong, controlled braking on long and steep descents.

How it works

Tech 4 lever: Hope raised both the hydraulic and mechanical ratio compared with the Tech 3. Hope says that gives 30% more pressure for the same force at the lever, with a lighter lever action that reduces rider fatigue.

Roller bearing pivot and new seals: The lever blade pivots on a roller bearing and the internal sealing was updated to cut friction.

Hybrid pistons: The V4 caliper uses stainless steel pistons with a phenolic insert. Hope says they move more smoothly, need less maintenance, and limit heat transfer into the brake fluid during hard use.

Tool free adjusters: Dials on the lever set reach (how far the lever sits from the bar) and bite point (where in the lever travel the pads contact).

Hinged clamp: The bar clamp opens so you can fit the lever without removing grips. Shifters can mount directly to it, with 30 degrees of angle adjustment and side to side adjustment on either side of the master cylinder.

Compatibility

• Caliper mount: post mount
• Rotor thickness: up to 3.3 mm, so the V4 caliper works with Hope's vented rotors
• Direct mount 180 mm forks: Hope says the V4 does not fit all forks with a native 180 mm post mount, and recommends a 200 mm rotor in that case
• Shifters: Hope says the Tech 4 clamp works with a wider range of current shifters than the Tech 3. Shifter mounts are sold separately.
• How to check yours: Find your fork or frame's native rotor size and the rotor you plan to run, then pick the Hope mount adapter that bridges the two.

Setup and installation

• Service: OMG's bike shop can install, shorten hoses, and bleed Hope brakes. Hope publishes Tech 4 bleed instructions on its site.
