The Mammut Barryvox is a digital 3 antenna avalanche transceiver with a 70 m search strip width. It is built around a simple interface that you can run with gloves on.
A transceiver sends a 457 kHz signal while you travel in avalanche terrain and switches to search so you can locate a buried partner. The Barryvox keeps the function set short so the search steps are easy to follow under stress.
Three antennas: digital signal processing with a receiving range that is nearly the same on the X and Y antennas, which gives a close to circular receiving field
Visual guidance: the backlit display leads you through each search phase and shows information on multiple burials. It stays readable through polarized glasses
Acoustic guidance: tone sequences point you toward the buried person so you can keep your eyes on the debris
Reverse direction function: warns you if you are heading the wrong way, which prevents a 180 degree error
Group check: confirms the transmit frequency and signal strength of your partners' transceivers before you leave the trailhead
Auto revert: a motion sensor switches the device from SEARCH back to SEND after 4 minutes without movement
Self test: checks transmit, search, and battery every time you switch on
W-Link: a second communication channel that Mammut uses to improve search performance and manage fleets of devices
