Maxxis lists the Assegai for trail, enduro and downhill. You can run it as a front tire with a faster rolling rear, or front and rear when you want as much traction as you can get.
3C MaxxTerra: A triple compound tread that sits in the middle of the 3C family. It gives more traction than 3C MaxxSpeed, with longer tread wear and less rolling resistance than MaxxGrip, which makes it the all conditions trail choice.
3C MaxxGrip: A triple compound tread that uses Maxxis's stickiest, slowest rebounding rubber. It is the compound the brand's World Cup downhill and enduro racers use, and it trades rolling speed and wear for traction.
EXO+: Medium duty protection. It combines a 60 TPI casing, the EXO layer in the sidewalls, and a small butyl insert around the bead to guard against rock damage and pinch flats.
DoubleDown (DD): Maxxis's casing for enduro racing and electric mountain bikes. Two layers of 120 TPI casing plus a butyl sidewall insert give more support and protection than EXO+, with more trail feel than a full downhill casing.
Wide Trail (WT): Marks a tire whose tread layout and profile are designed around rims with a 30 to 35 mm inner width. Maxxis is phasing out the WT label, so newer production of the same size may not show it.
Tubeless Ready (TR): Runs without a tube on a tubeless compatible rim with liquid sealant. That lets you use lower pressure for grip and reduces flats.
