Maxxis took the side knobs from the Minion DHF and widened them for more support in corners. The center tread has ramped leading edges to help acceleration and sipes that smooth the move from upright to leaned over. Paddle shaped center knobs dig in under hard braking. Maxxis lists it for trail, enduro and downhill in all trail conditions, on the rear wheel.
Dual compound: Two rubber compounds in one tread. On the Minion DHR II page Maxxis recommends dual compound for dry, hard conditions.
3C MaxxGrip: A triple compound tread that uses Maxxis's stickiest, slowest rebounding rubber. It is the compound the brand's World Cup downhill and enduro racers use, and it trades rolling speed and wear for traction.
EXO: A cut and abrasion resistant material added to the sidewalls. It is light and flexible, so it adds protection without changing how the tire rides.
EXO+: Medium duty protection. It combines a 60 TPI casing, the EXO layer in the sidewalls, and a small butyl insert around the bead to guard against rock damage and pinch flats.
Wide Trail (WT): Marks a tire whose tread layout and profile are designed around rims with a 30 to 35 mm inner width. Maxxis is phasing out the WT label, so newer production of the same size may not show it.
Tubeless Ready (TR): Runs without a tube on a tubeless compatible rim with liquid sealant. That lets you use lower pressure for grip and reduces flats.
