Boiling water and cooking simple meals for one person on backpacking, alpine and ski touring trips, especially where wind makes open flame stoves slow. Canister fuel is sold separately.
Radiant burner: the burner is enclosed by the pot instead of throwing an open flame, so wind does not blow the heat away. MSR states this gives faster boil times and more fuel efficiency than conventional stoves.
Pressure regulator: holds stove output steady as the canister empties and cools, with consistent performance down to a canister temperature of 32°F (0°C).
Heat exchanger: fins built into the bottom of the pot pull heat from the burner into the water.
Lock on pot: the pot locks onto the stove, and the stove threads onto the canister, so the system stays together when you pick it up.
