Muc-Off Tubeless Rim Tape in the 28 mm width, on a 10 m roll. It seals the spoke holes of a tubeless ready rim so the tire can hold air without a tube.
What it's for
Rim tape is the first layer of a tubeless setup. It covers the spoke holes in the rim bed so air and sealant stay inside the tire. Muc-Off makes this tape from its own material with a pressure sensitive adhesive, and it stretches so it can follow the shape of the rim bed. The tape is semi transparent pink, which lets you see the valve hole through it.
Features
- Adhesive: pressure sensitive, so pressing the tape down firmly is what sets the seal
- Semi transparent: the valve hole stays visible through the tape
- Seal patches: four included per roll to cover the cut end of the tape
- Roll length: 10 m, which Muc-Off says is enough for about four applications
Sizing and fit
- How to choose: measure the internal width of your rim from wall to wall and match the tape width to it
- Between sizes: Muc-Off says to pick the next size up
- Widths Muc-Off makes: 17 mm, 21 mm, 25 mm, 28 mm, 30 mm, 35 mm
- This roll: 28 mm. Muc-Off lists 28 mm and 30 mm for DH and enduro rims.
Setup and installation
- Step 1: clean the rim bed and remove old glue or sealant
- Step 2: start the tape opposite the valve hole
- Step 3: press the tape down firmly as you peel it off the roll and rotate the wheel
- Step 4: after one full lap, overlap the start by 10 to 15 cm
- Step 5: cut the tape at a 45 degree angle and press the edge down
- Step 6: push out any air bubbles with firm pressure
- Step 7: put a seal patch over the cut edge
- Step 8: install the tubeless valve with its O ring and lock ring
- Step 9: fit the tire and inflate it before adding sealant
