National Geographic’s Flat Tops South Map from Trails Illustrated provides detailed topographic information for exploring the southern portion of Colorado’s Flat Tops region year-round. Developed in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and other agencies, this map highlights major points of interest including White River National Forest, Flat Tops Wilderness, Hardscrabble Recreation Area, Gypsum Hills Recreation Area, Rifle Falls State Park, Rifle Gap State Park, Glenwood Canyon, and the Colorado River and Eagle River.
Trailheads lead to clearly marked trails, with mileage markers and color-coded routes according to their intended use, including hiking, climbing, horseback riding, biking, snowmobiling, and ATV travel. For water recreation, the map includes a river difficulty scale chart and a QR code linking to the National Stream Information Program for real-time water level updates.
The map base features contour lines and elevation information for summits and peaks, while rivers, streams, creeks, and reservoirs are prominently displayed. A wide variety of recreation features are also marked, including swimming and water skiing areas, boat launches, fishing spots, caves, scenic viewpoints, and wildlife viewing locations.
Printed on “Backcountry Tough” waterproof, tear-resistant paper, this map is compact, durable, and designed for field use. A full UTM grid is included to assist with GPS navigation.
