The Nikwax Hardshell DUO-Pack holds two 300 ml bottles: Tech Wash, which cleans waterproof clothing, and TX.Direct Wash-In, which adds water repellency back to the outer fabric.

What it's for

Caring for waterproof breathable jackets, pants and gloves. When the outer fabric stops beading water and soaks through instead, the garment feels cold and clammy even if the membrane is intact. You wash first, then reproof.

How it works

Step 1, Tech Wash: cleans the garment, and by removing dirt and residue it restores water repellency and revives breathability. Nikwax also lists it for synthetic sleeping bags.

Step 2, TX.Direct Wash-In: leaves a flexible water repellent treatment on the individual fibers, so water beads off while moisture vapor can still pass through. It does not need a tumble dryer to work.

Order: always clean with Tech Wash first, in a separate wash cycle. You do not need to dry the garment between the two steps.

Setup and installation

• Before you start: do not use conventional detergents; clear any detergent out of the machine's drawer
• Tech Wash, front loader: 100 ml for up to 2 garments
• Tech Wash, top loader: 150 to 250 ml for 1 to 6 garments
• Tech Wash, HE top loader: 150 ml for up to 4 garments
• Tech Wash, by hand: 50 ml per item in 7.5 L of warm water, agitate, then rinse 3 times
• TX.Direct: shake the bottle before use
• TX.Direct, front loader: 100 ml per garment, 2 garments at most
• TX.Direct, top loader: 300 ml for up to 3 garments
• TX.Direct, by hand: 100 ml in 7.5 L of warm water per garment, soak 5 to 10 minutes with agitation, then rinse until the water runs clear; wear gloves
• Machine settings: warm or cold water, slow spin for TX.Direct, extra rinse if your machine has one

Care and service

• Drying: air dry, or tumble dry on low if the care label allows
