A 4130 chromoly steel hardtail frame from Otso, designed around a 140mm travel fork for playful trail riding.
What it's for
The Hoot Steel is Otso's steel trail hardtail. Otso designed it for riders who want a hardtail that handles steep descents and rough lines, with geometry that keeps it playful on tighter trails. It is sold here as a frame for building up with your own parts.
How it works
- Size specific tubing: Otso uses 4130 chromoly with custom tubing for each frame size so the ride quality stays the same from small to XL.
- Geometry: 65 degree head tube angle, 76 degree seat tube angle, 60mm bottom bracket drop and 425mm chainstays.
- Dropper insertion: a low standover, a seat tube that extends above the top tube, straight tubing until just above the bottom bracket, and a reworked bottle mount let you run a long travel dropper.
- Evolved bottle mount: the seat tube mount is placed so its bolts do not limit dropper insertion, giving you a second bottle or gear mount.
- UDH dropouts: compatible with all drivetrains, including SRAM Transmission.
Compatibility
- Fork: designed for 140mm travel. Otso states it can also run a 150mm fork. Otso does not recommend going longer or shorter.
- Tires: up to 29 x 2.6 inch.
- Derailleur hanger: UDH.
Sizing and fit
- Sizes: S, M, L, XL.
- Otso has a size guide on its site that uses height and inseam. Measure inseam standing against a wall with a book pulled up like a saddle, not your pant inseam.
Care and service
- Warranty: Otso warrants its frames against defects in materials and workmanship for 5 years from the date of retail purchase, to the original owner.
- OMG's bike shop can do a full build on this frame.
